Meera Bai's story is that of a 16th-century Rajput princess who renounced worldly life for her intense, lifelong devotion to Lord Krishna, whom she saw as her divine husband, leading her to defy her royal family, compose countless devotional poems (bhajans), and famously survive assassination attempts, ultimately merging spiritually with Krishna. Born in Rajasthan, she developed deep love for Krishna as a child, which intensified after her arranged marriage to a prince; she prioritized her spiritual life, singing and dancing in public, which angered her in-laws, especially her brother-in-law. Despite poison and threats, her faith remained unshaken, and she left her palace to wander, spreading her devotional message until her mystical end, often depicted as merging with an idol of Krishna.
